Checking Out the Site

Sunday, February 7, 2010

Today was spent at the site determining our strategy for the season’s work.
Catharine and Ginger will undertake the clearance of the Amun temple to prepare
it for planning by the architect and surveyor. Diana and I will work on the
nearby North Village where we will begin by clearing off the modern debris and
camel thorn (the spikey stuff in the photo) obscuring the site. We could
identify some of the structures using a preliminary plan from the records of the
original Metropolitan Museum Expedition. However, this sketch plan has left many
questions about this part of the site unanswered and we hope that by re-clearing
the area we will be able not only to make a more legible plan, but also to find
some information on the date of the village and the function of the various
structures within.
